Fighting Back, Halevy Life Reveals Hidden Yelp Reviews
Like many maligned businesses who have fallen victim to Yelp’s questionable business practices, high-end Upper East Side personal training gym Halevy Life was no different as it sought help to pull nearly a dozen positive reviews from real clients from Yelp’s so-called “filter.”
Halevy Life went so far as to provide Yelp with confidential client information (with their client’s approval) to verify the validity of reviews, however the pleas fell on deaf ears at Yelp. What added insult to injury was the attempt to remove an obviously fictitous and defamatory review from “Banana W.” — the type of review, replete with TOS violations, from a one-time reviewer Yelp’s “filter” should exclude — also to no avail.
Being a “transparent business with nothing to hide,” as fitness expert founder and childhood obesity pioneer Jeff Halevy puts it, Halevy Life took justice into their own hands and decided to reveal what was behind the filter (which, thanks to the small type and captcha requirement, most people don’t even know exists — did you??). And as Halevy points out, “How could a business that has grown nearly 500% in the past three years create anything but insanely positive customer experiences? We have editors from all the top fitness magazines as clients, and I’m sure they have discerning fitness palates!”
The following are real reviews and testimonials (from Yelp’s site; “filtered,” mind you) from Halevy Life’s clients:
Friendly and professional atmosphere. Very attentive to my specific needs even while working out in small group sessions. Never a dull moment as routines are constantly changed and new exercises are introduced daily. Customer service is second to none. What can I say? Its an awesome gym! -Stephanie B. Since moving to New York for work, I’ve noticed latley… I’ve been getting fat. Not super fat, but around that time where you gotta start doing something, or risk turning into a jellybean.
I was looking for a gym that is convenient for me to travel, has professional staff, and also a place that I don’t have to spend an arm and a leg. After a week of researching, I found Halevy Life, and I instantly fell in love. I like the location, I love the staff, and the price was perfect for me (semi-private training for $30 per session).
1 month later, and I feel great and look like my old self again. The personal training staff is amazing, and I feel like this place is a second home sometimes.

As someone who never worked out with a trainer before, Halevy Life has been a great first experience. Because you train in groups, the sessions are so much more affordable than one-on-one (the 10/mo package works out to only $29 a session – kind of unreal in NYC??)… and because the groups are small, you get super-personalized attention. There was a negative review on here about customer service but I’ve only ever had extremely positive interactions. All of my emails and phone calls to the studio have been answered quickly – generally within 30 minutes or less – and all of the trainers have great energy that really keeps you motivated. I’ve noticed improvements after only a month and a half – the mix of sprints and weights is a little killer but definitely not something I’d motivate to do on my own so it’s great to have the HL team pushing you and getting those results.
I got turned on to this place by the editor in chief of a major fitness magazine. My only question after my first few weeks as a client is: Why don’t these guys have 50 locations!? I am loving “SP”, their semi-private training. I love the small group feel (3 or 4 clients are in a session), which gives a ton of personal attention, but also a fun social vibe that keeps me coming back for more torture! The training is amazing, well thought out and definitely not the scattered approach of these bootcamps. So far this has been the exact fitness fix I’ve been looking for!
I can’t tell you how many trainers I’ve been through over the years. Most didn’t last more than a few months, the reason being: NO RESULTS! That being said, I have been a client of Halevy Life for nearly three years now. Why? RESULTS. I’m not going to even reveal what weight I started at, but let’s just say I lost a whole person. The staff is amazing and the owner, Jeff, has really helped me break through sticking points. What I love most is that anything I’ve learned over the years, I’ve always vetted and looked up, and science really does support what I’m doing in all my workouts. Ready for the icing on the cake? I am not an athlete, but this non-athlete not only finished the NYC marathon injury free last year, but several days later was scaling mountains in South America on vacation…with ease! I give Halevy Life my highest recommendation. They really changed my life.

I am a big fan of the Halevy Life’s 30/30 fitness program. I heard about it through a Living Social deal, checked it out, loved it, and bought a package. Basically, you split the cost of a personal training session among 3-4 people, which is a great way to stay fit for those who typically don’t push themselves too hard when working out on their own and don’t want to pay a full price for a one-on-one training session. I find 30/30 sessions to be intense, effective, fun, and affordable. Each workout is one hour long and consists of interval training variations, strength, core movement rotations, and stretches. Workout sequences are rotated day to day and every few weeks, thus you don’t get bored doing the same thing. Matt K, the trainer I’ve had from the beginning, is very knowledgeable, personable, and nice (not to mention good looking). I strongly recommend Halevy Life’s 30/30 program to anyone who is looking to get back in shape or maintain their fitness level.
Having been an intense athlete my whole life, I struggled finding something in the city that really challenged me. 30/30 is the closest thing to my workout regimine I used to train for Olympic Trials. Everyone goes at their own pace, but each person is challenged to push themselves and dig deeper. I feel I am on my way to getting back to the shape I was when I was a D1 athlete. Not only is it a great, full body workout, but the trainers seem to really want the best for you and to help you acheive your fitness goals.

Halevy Life has helped to put me on the path toward reaching my fitness goals. Whereas before I didn’t always push myself 100% at the gym, Jeff and Jeremy have helped me to optimize my workout time and vary my workouts for total-body fitness. Thanks to Halevy Life, I’m well on my way to building an impressive rock-hard body in time for my upcoming wedding!
