How do I win more business? How do I stand out in a crowded marketplace? How do I get out of debt and get in the black? – One word answer: BELIEF. – Before you pounce on me for spewing more Instagram-friendly woo-woo BS, just hear me out. – I have seen some of the best laid plans fail from nothing more than self-doubt. – Self-doubt isn’t fear. No, no, no, no, no. Fear is a natural response to something we believe may harm us. If you’re never afraid, you’re not human. – Self-doubt also isn’t cockeyed optimism. Just believing in yourself with a crap game plan — a la The Secret — is a recipe for definite misery. – Self-doubt is not cognitive either. Two different people can have the same set of circumstances, but one sees a path to a win, the other a path to a loss. – Self-doubt, in my humble opinion, is entirely spiritual. It has very little do with pop psychology explanations and more to do with your “WHY.” – Self-doubt comes from either not having a Why or having a weak Why. – True confidence, the opposite of self-doubt, doesn’t stem from bravado, “fearlessness (no such thing), or having the right genes. Confidences comes from having the “right” Why. Period. – The book I’m pointing to was one of my favorite books growing up. The moral of the story. It tells the story of Louis Pasteur and his search for an “invisible enemy” — which elicited nothing but mockery. But his Why, saving lives, was so strong that he proceeded to do so in ways that still save lives to this very day. (Sorry anti-vaxxers! ????) – So what do you do when you feel self-doubt? Don’t drum up fake courage or use The Secret. Get zeroed back in on your Why. Know your Why. Live your Why. Your Why is what lives on. Your Why is your legacy. Your Why is why you’re here. ???? – Thanks for listening to my rambling. I am purposely going back to edit this. I hope this helps and please drop a comment if you agree! How much do you sit? (And does it really kill?) – Yes. – And I was recently honored to speak about it at UBS. – A meta analysis of 13 studies found that sitting 8 hours a day is just as risky as smoking or being obese. – And…the same study found that just an hour of moderate exercise a day can offset this risk. – But you don’t get off that easy… because another study found that 10 hours a day of sitting still indicates damage to heart tissue (troponjns in blood), and yet another found that it thins the part of the brain necessary for memory – the medial temporal lobe – something that is associated with cognitive decline, #dementia and #Alzheimers! – And even if it doesn’t kill you, it will still “kill:” sitting a lot will wreak havoc on your body—from your neck to your shoulders and your back. – I’ll post on how to remedy the orthopedic aches and pains soon, but in the meantime, stand up! (Just drink a lot of water…it’ll force you to get up, I promise ????????????)

Have you ever given up on anything? – I have. – I actually only gave up once that I can remember. But knowing that I did stung so badly afterwards that I swore I’d never do it again. – Turns out quitting once can actually be the greatest way to ensure you never quit again. – Have you heard of Florence May Chadwick? – She was the first woman to swim the English Channel in both directions, setting a time record each time. – In 1952, Florence attempted to swim the 26 miles between Catalina Island and the California coastline. As she began, she was flanked by small boats that watched for sharks and were prepared to help her if she got hurt or grew tired. After about 15 hours a thick fog set in. Florence began to doubt her ability, and she told her mother, who was in one of the boats, that she did not think she could make it. She swam for another hour before asking to be pulled out, unable to see the coastline due to the fog. As she sat in the boat, she found out she had stopped swimming **just one mile away from her destination.** Two months later, she tried again. The same thick fog set in, but she succeeded in reaching Catalina. – You never know if you’re inches or a mile away from your destination, so #nevergiveup!
